It was, he realised, more than either of them could have hoped, and as Gabe settled the first kitten down to nurse relief flooded his systems like a shot from a needle.]

Excellent! [His voice filled out in a rich, polyphonic smile. All the better for the mother, whose energy seemed entirely dependent now on the golden orb warming her flank.

One became two, two three, three four- but there was life still within her, and when the final pair emerged even Zenyatta had to marvel at what had to have been a monumental effort.]
