[That Auron chooses to sit so close to him rather than taking another chair or standing is affirming, in its own little way. Zenyatta does not bother to stop himself from leaning forward as the man begins to speak, head to one side in rapt attention. Auron can be somewhat intense himself; he doubts he will mind.
Each little success gets a nod or hum of approbation, easily missed but heartfelt. Even the smallest of steps are to be appreciated. As Auron's sentence edges inevitably towards that but, however, he straightens up.]
Does it bother, you to feel so protective? [He'll give his thoughts on the matter later. For now he's listening, not philosophising.]
[The intensity is probably from his natural speaking voice. It's distinct and it demands attention. It's also a good question that no one's asked him so he sips his tea for a moment, trying to find a response.]
It doesn't...bother me. I guess it confuses me more. I'm not a stranger to taking care of a child. I had to do that for one of my friends that I lost. However, I did that because he asked me to and I keep my promises.
There's no real reason that I have to feel protective. Maybe I'm trying to make parallels because they're the same age, but they're different people.
[Taking care of a child, hm? Not something Zenyatta would naturally have imagined Auron doing without prompting, but now it has him wondering; as he watches his face now, he cannot decide if there might be some paternal impulse under that still, serious facade.
But then, if there were, how would he recognise it? His only "father" was a heat-belching factory beneath the earth.]
You do yourself a disservice, Auron- or perhaps you simply do not see how much they mean to you. Anyone with a heart would feel protective of someone younger in their time of need. Indeed, my first student is fifteen years older than me and more than capable of caring for himself, and he has nonetheless inspired incredible feelings of protectiveness within me over the years.
[Auron wouldn't be surprised at people being surprised. He doesn't look the part at all, but he's learned a thing or two for being a parental guardian for ten years. The remark catches him off guard, however.]
Fifteen years older? Is this for your student Genji? Ana told me that you had a student by that name. [Maybe it's just the aura Zenyatta exudes, but he felt like Zenyatta was even older than himself.]
[Zenyatta laughs warmly, tea rippling with each little vibration.]
Perhaps I am exaggerating! I was created as a functional adult- I did not have a childhood as such. But, yes. That's right. [He's already perked up at Genji's name, and though he does not have eyes to light up his orbs brighten while he speaks. They stay lit as Ana arrives in the picture, too.] Ana is the one who suggested you visit me, is she not? She is a wonderful woman.
[Zenyatta, your world must be something else because even trying to picture how exactly to make an omnic and to say nothing of how a soul was...nope. He's not even going to bother trying to figure that one out. Picturing Zenyatta as always adult is something he can mentally grasp. As is the emotional reaction.]
Yes, she did. I'm thankful. I don't know much about her, except she's probably seen more combat than years I've been walking around. [He sips his tea, thinking over his other words.]
So you're saying that even though no one orders you to take care of someone younger, you just...feel that way.
